Reviewing the mutual benefits for Chile and Argentina, in every aspect, and thanks to the existing mining treaty between both countries, was the tone of the presentations held in the V Chilean and Argentine Mining Meeting. Attending this meeting, organized by the Chilean-Argentine Commerce Chamber, were the ambassadors of both countries, the Argentine Mining Sub-Secretary, Pablo Wagner; the National Mining Secretary, Jorge Mayoral; the Coquimbo Region Mayor, Sergio Gahona; and businessmen related to the mining sector. In the current bi-national projects, there are approximately U$S 10,000 million in investments. The Argentine National Mining Secretary, Jorge Mayoral, said it was a privilege to be mining partners with Chile, because after the 1997 treaty was publicized, foreign investors looked at Argentina differently. “Today there are 574 mining projects in our country, of copper as well as of gold, silver and other metals”; and added that “with Chile we have the second longest border in the world, in a territory rich in mining that should be explored and exploited.”
