New Good Practices Guide for the Access to Justice of Elderly Citizens

On April 18, 2024, through Resolution SC 216/24, the Supreme Court of Justice of Buenos Aires approved the Guide to Access to Justice for Elderly Citizens, which seeks to guarantee dignified, respectful, and non-discriminatory treatment, as well as substantial, quality, and equal access to justice services for the elderly.

In its recitals, the Guide reviews the legal framework applicable to elderly persons and highlights the barriers they often face in their interaction with the judicial system.

The Guide refers not only to legal aspects but also to practical issues, including the adapting of the infrastructure of the buildings where justice services are provided, the preferential attention to elderly persons, the active listening of public officials, the use of plain language and easy read texts, and permanent staff training. In short, it seeks the effective protection of the rights of the elderly at the provincial and municipal levels.

The Guide will be implemented as of May 13, 2024, according to Resolution SSJ 447/24. You can download the complete Guide in Spanish here
