Neuquen: Boosting Local Tourism and Production
The new provincial law recognizes tourism as a strategic activity for productive diversification and sustainable regional development.
On August 22, 2025, the Legislature of the Province of Neuquen passed Law 3525, which seeks to promote quality, inclusion, safety, and innovation in tourism services. The Ministry of Tourism will be responsible for implementing the law: it will oversee planning, regulation, and the promotion of tourist destinations.
A key focus is enhancing the province’s natural and cultural heritage. The implementing authority must encourage activities that foster awareness, protection, and enjoyment of these resources. It should also promote local pride and consumption of regional products and services.
The Law also establishes the Gastronomy Distinction Seal of Neuquen, to highlight the region’s culinary offerings. This initiative links the gastronomic sector with the protection and promotion of local products. These tools are essential to showcase local production and increase its value in national and international markets.
The Law allows provincial recognition of touristic events and initiatives. Such recognition would boost visibility, protect local identity, and position them as part of Neuquen’s heritage.
While Law 3525 does not specifically regulate geographical indications or appellations of origin, its focus on regional production as a tourist attraction, it lays a strong foundation for their protection and development. For example, the province already has the appellation of origin Chivito Criollo del Norte Neuquino.
