The City of Buenos Aires Adheres to Regime for the Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents with Cancer
This Regime seeks to reduce cancer-related morbimortality of this group.
Law 6701, published in the Official Gazette of the City of Buenos Aires on January 3, 2024, adhered to federal Law 27674. This law created the National Program for the Comprehensive Care of Children and Adolescents with Cancer, which seeks to reduce cancer-related morbimortality in children and adolescents and to guarantee their rights.
The program aims to:
1. comply with the Argentine Pediatric Cancer Hospital Registry (ROHA) of patients up to 18 years old,
2. to disseminate strategies and provide training in them to optimize early diagnosis of childhood cancer,
3. to manage the operation of the oncology centers’ network caring for these patients at the national level,
4. to draft programmatic guides and practice guidelines for detection, diagnosis, and treatment,
5. to assist oncology centers in providing quality care, respectful of all the rights of children and adolescents with cancer,
6. to train health teams through the Human Resources Training Scholarship Program in Cancer,
7. to provide follow-up and clinical care after cancer treatment.
The Argentine Cancer Institute will issue a credential for those enrolled in the ROHA and undergoing active treatment. Further, there will be an automatic yearly renewal until the patient's definitive discharge—if it happens before the age of 18—for them to have access, among other things, to health care, an economic allowance, free public transportation, and a special unpaid leave for one of their parents.
