Initiative to Implement Integrity Policies in Argentine Provinces and Municipalities
The Argentine Anticorruption Office re-launched a cooperation project that has the support of the United Nations Development Programme to articulate transparency and integrity policies with the provinces and municipalities.
The project, re-launched by the Anti-Corruption Office (the “OA”, after its acronym in Spanish) through its release of July 23, 2020 has the support of the Foreign Ministry and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and their main objective is to incorporate policies to prevent corruption throughout the national territory incorporating the particularities of each region, province and municipality.
According to what was published on the UNDP official website, this is a project that started in 2017 and is estimated to finish by July 31, 2020.
As was reported by the OA, the project, developed by the UNDP, encourages compliance with international convention obligations on transparency and the fight against corruption ratified by the Argentine Republic within the framework of the United Nations Organization (UN), the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Even though the OA did not reveal further details of the project, according to its release it includes: (a) training programs; (b) technical assistance; and (c) provision of tools. Although there is more information about the project published on the UNDP official website, unfortunately many of the documents mentioned there are not yet available online.
Likewise, considering the current context, the OA release highlights some of the main purposes of the project, the promotion and follow-up of transparency policies in the management of the health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, the OA announced that the project will have a gender perspective and takes into account the impact that corruption can have on human rights.
