Antidumping Proceedings: Electric Motors from China
A sunset and changed circumstances review has been opened for electric motors from China.
Through Resolution 1622/2025, the Ministry of Economy initiated a review due to expiry of the period and change of circumstances regarding imports into Argentina of “single-phase asynchronous alternating current motors, for a voltage equal to or greater than 110 V but less than or equal to 240 V and with a power equal to or greater than 37.5 W (1/20 HP) but less than or equal to 750 W (1 HP), of the types used in washing machines; and universal electric motors, for a voltage equal to or greater than 110 V but less than or equal to 240 V and with a power equal to or greater than 37.5 W (1/20 HP) but less than or equal to 750 W (1 HP), of the types used in washing machines” originating in the People’s Republic of China.
These products are classified under Mercosur Customs Tariff Codes (NCM) 8501.10.29, 8501.10.30, 8501.20.00 and 8501.40.19.
The original measures had been imposed by Resolution 561/2020 of the former Ministry of Productive Development, which had established antidumping duties of 46% and 30% on the relevant exports for a five-year term.
The review was requested by WegEquipamientos Electricos SA, as the current measures approach expiration. The Argentine Foreign Trade Commission (CNCE) found evidence of potential recurrence of dumping and injury to the domestic industry, based on declining domestic production and sales, lower capacity utilization, and evidence of dumping margins in exports to third markets.
As a result, the Ministry of Economy resolved to initiate the review without maintaining the antidumping duties while the examination is ongoing.
The review will cover the period between August 2024 and July 2025 for dumping analysis, and January 2022 to July 2025 for injury determination.
